Redmen can’t hold lead in loss to Raiders

BIDWELL — The Redmen went up the Hill but then finished in the Valley.

Rock Hill was on the rise in the first half by taking an early lead, but it was all downhill in the second half as the River Valley Raiders rallied to take a 56-50 Ohio Valley Conference win Tuesday.

“We just didn’t make shots,” said Rock Hill coach Dave Hopper. “We got to where we had to foul at the end and they made their free throws.”

Austin Collins led the Redmen (0-3) with a strong all-around game. Collins had 19 points, 6 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 assists.

Rock Hill also got 11 points and 5 rebounds from Joey Stidham and Jordan Hairston had 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Tyler Twyman scored 20 points for the Raiders (2-2, 1-0). Seann Roberts added 11 poitns and 9 rebounds and John Qualls scored 13 points.

Rock Hill scored 11 unanswered points to start the game. Collins scored 10 points and combined with Stidham to go 7-of-7 at the line and give Rock Hill a 17-8 lead.

Twyman scored 8 points including a pair of 3-pointers and Roberts had 8 points as River Valley outscored Rock Hill 20-14 in the second quarter and trailed 31-28 at the break.

Collins scored 7 points in the second quarter for the Redmen.

River Valley took its first lead on a putback by Roberts with 6:23 left in the third quarter to make it 32-31. Twyman had 8 points in the quarter.

The Raiders were 9-of-13 from the line in the fourth quarter.
