Children show good sportsmanship
Published 12:37 am Sunday, December 15, 2013
The 2013 Ironton Elks Hoop Shoot contest was Sunday Dec. 8, despite Mother Nature’s snowy onslaught, with both boys and girls participating from throughout the county.
I would like to take the time to thank Coach Lafon at Ironton High School for providing us with a gym and the basketballs needed for the free-throw contest. The Ironton Tribune for publishing the contest and the many coaches and teachers that helped to get the information out in the schools and community.
A big thanks to the parents who braved the weather to bring their children to the program and apologize to the folks that could not make it due to the weather. I also want to thank the boys and girls who competed.
We were certainly proud of the good sportsmanship exhibited along with the outstanding behavior of each and every child that participated.
The Elks Lodge would like to wish each champion good luck as they move on to the district competition in Newark on Jan. 19.
Again, thank all of you for helping make the Ironton Elks Lodge 2013 Hoop Shoot Contest a success.
