Harold Shafer

Harold Leon Shafer, 76, of Ironton, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 13. 1937, in Lecta, to the late Clarence and Rachel Dillon Shafer.

He was a 1955 graduate of Ironton High School. Leon was longtime member of Mamre Baptist Church in Kitts Hill. He was a charter member of Iron City Auto Club and Past Master of Waterloo Masonic Lodge 532. He was in the 202nd Ky. National Guard band for 18 years. He was employed at Jack Wolfe Chevrolet Garage for 20 years. Following this, he and his brother, John, owned Shafer Brothers Body Shop from 1975-1998. Upon retiring, he was employed by Ironton City Schools as a bus driver from 2001-2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosemary Bowman; grandson, Rodney Lee Townsend; and mother and father-in-law; Almeda and Forrest Robinson.

Leon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Selba (Robinson) Shafer; daughter, Rita (Cecil) Townsend; son, Michael (Patricia) Shafer; brother, John (Phyllis) Shafer; grandsons, Jason (Lindsey) Townsend of Fairfield, and Jeff (Courtney) Townsend; granddaughter, Summer Shafer; great-granddaughter, Layla Townsend; great-grandson, Cameron Townsend of Fairfield; brother-in-law, Dr. Michael Bowman of Raleigh, N.C.; sister-in-law, Doris Robinson as well as many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Per his request, graveside services will be held on Tuesday at Highland Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ryan McKee officiating. There will be no public visitation. Everyone is ask to meet at the cemetery. Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the building fund at Mamre Baptist Church, 2367 County Road 182, Kitts Hill, OH 45645. Pamela Littlejohn

Pamela Gail “Taylor” Littlejohn, wife of the late Ralph Littlejohn and daughter of the late Earnest “Jake” Taylor and the late Eva “Hillgenburg” Taylor, passed away on Dec. 19, 2013, at Riverside Hospital after a long illness.

She is survived by her four children, Eva Littlejohn, Ralph Littlejohn Jr., Teresa “Littlejohn” Walls and Amanda Littlejohn; four brothers, Bryan Taylor, Terry Taylor, Randy Taylor and Bill Taylor; and 10 grandchildren John, Sommer, Dakota, Braden, Cheyanne, Olivia, Brian, Beverly and Alyssa. She is preceded in death by brother, John Taylor; and grandchild, Sadarah Walls.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 3, at The Point in South Point. Terry Wagner will officiate.

 

 

Teodorico Vidal

Teodorico Vidal, 63, of Proctorville, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at home. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Lee Akers

Lee Roy Akers Sr., 74, of Pedro, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at SOMC in Portsmouth. He was born April 29, 1939, a son of the late William Harrison Akers and Helen Marie Lewis Akers.

Lee Roy was a graduate of Blackfork High School. He was a member of Local Union #423 of Columbus and a former pipeline construction worker for H.L. Crouse Pipeline Co. He was a local timber cutter/logger and attended Pleasant Valley Freewill Baptist Church. He was an avid horse fan and raced horses at Scioto Downs and Thunder Ridge. He was a member of the U.S. Horse Trotting Association.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Andy Jack Akers; and grandson, Matthew Ryan Bloomfield.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Ann Bailey Akers; seven children, Dennis (Nancy) Akers of Pedro, Jonda (Robert) Akers-Dyer of Port Richie, Fla., Steve (Beth) Akers of Pedro, Judy (Joe) Friend of Pedro, Lee Roy (Alicia) Akers Jr. of Pedro, Kim (Russ Stapleton) Akers of Pedro, Scott Akers of Wheelersburg; five sisters, Sylvia Buess of Reynoldsburg, Kathy Middleton of South Webster, America Moore of Pedro, Jane Watkins of Brandford, Fla., Marie Harmon of Bradenton, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Hanshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Buckhorn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net

 

 

Okie Frazier

Okie Ellis Frazier III, 31, of Breeze, Ill., died Sunday, Dec. 22, at his home. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens by Pastor Frank Hulett. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home.

 

 

Helen Large

Helen Winona Large, 91, of Proctorville, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by Minister Brad Poe. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Nancy Goodall

Nancy Goodall, 78, of Huntington, W.Va., died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She was the wife of Willard Goodall, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
