Gallia edges Redmen

GALLIPOLIS — The Rock Hill Redmen didn’t get a win, but they did get something out of Monday’s 60-56 loss to the Gallipolis Blue Devils.

“We lost, but we improved,” said Rock Hill coach Dave Hopper.

“We had two big turnovers at the end and they capitalized on them and they hit their free throws.”

Rock Hill (1-7) was led by Austin Collins with 16 points, 15 rebounds and six assists. Joey Stidham had 13 points, five steals and four assists and Chance Blankenship scored 12 points to go with six assists. Jordan Hairston grabbed nine rebounds.

Wes Jarrell scored 22 points and Seth Adkins had 20 points for Gallipolis (4-4).

Adkins and Jarrell combined for 15 points as Gallipolis took a 19-6 lead.

Collins scored 10 points in the second quarter as Rock Hill cut the deficit to 31-26 at the half.

Blankenship had 6 points, Stidham 5 and Collins 4 in the third quarter to get the Redmen within 45-41.

Jarrell scored 8 points in the fourth quarter including 4-of-5 from the foul line as the Blue Devils held on for the win.

Gallipolis was 9-of-11 at the line in the fourth quarter while the Redmen were 6-of-6.
