PROCTORVILLE — Unlike a painter, the Fairland Lady Dragons couldn’t apply the finishing touches.

Fairland did all the things needed to win except make the basket as they dropped 48-43 decision to the Jackson Ironladies on Monday.

“We executed well. We had some open looks and didn’t hit the shot or turned it over. We just couldn’t finish. It came down to a couple of plays at the end and they made them and we didn’t,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Terra Stapleton did the bulk of Fairland’s scoring with a game-high 17 points. Caitlin Stone had 10 points — all in the second half — for the Lady Dragons (6-2).

The Ironladies got a strong performance from Madison Ridout who scored 16 points including 12-of-15 at the foul line.

Whitney Wills scored 11 and Kerrigan Hoover 10 for Jackson (11-1).

“They’re a good team. It was everything we thought it would be. We wanted a good game to challenge our girls. We played pretty well, but we didn’t make shots when we needed to,” said Buchanan.

“Jackson is a very good rebounding team and they do a good job limiting you to one shot.”

Wills scored 6 points in the first quarter as Jackson took an 11-9 lead. Stapleton had 7 of the Lady Dragons’ points.

Chandler Fulks scored all 6 of her points in the second quarter as Fairland rallied to tie the game at the half 23-23. Ridout had 6 points in the quarter for Jackson.

Stone scored all 10 of her points in the second half, but Jackson — who converted 21-of-26 free throws for the game — made 8-of-9 form the line in the fourth quarter inclduing 5-of-6 over the final 48 seconds.

Fairland was 8-of-13 at the line.
