Diligence needed in airport decision

While the process to acquire land at the Lawrence County Airport has been a long process, county officials look to finally see an end that will allow for an extension of the runways and clear potential hazards for incoming aircrafts.

A meeting hopefully will pave the way for submission to the Federal Aviation Administration to approve funding for part or all of the acquisition of the property.

Ensuring all of the necessary paperwork is completed and submitted, however, is essential to guarantee no delays in a decision from the FAA.

Although the valuations of the property between the county and the family who owned the property vary; it is important for the future development of the airport and the safety of pilots and passengers to get these modifications completed.

Doing their due diligence now in the process prior to submission will allow the commissioners and others involved in the process of receiving funding to avoid potential hurdles.

While the regulations and requirements seem to be a moving target to receive funding from a state or federal level, we encourage those involved to make certain all the red tape that is usually included in federal funding is known and accounted for.

By all accounts, this appears to be the case with the group to meet those requirements and receive a decision that will work well for everyone involved.
