CHARLESTON, W.Va. — For the team, it was a low mark. For Hannah Miller, it was a highlight.

The St. Joseph Female Flyers shot a season poor 26 percent from the field and scored a season-low point total in a 52-38 loss to the unbeaten Charleston Catholic Lady Irish Saturday.

Although St. Joseph suffered a loss, junior point guard Hannah Miller became the second player in Female Flyer history to reach the 1,000-point career scoring mark when she drained a 3-pointer from the win in the fourth quarter.

Miller joins Lynette Anson as the only two Female Flyers to reach the milestone.

“That’s a great achievement and she’s a hard worker and puts in a lot of time throughout the year,” said St. Joseph coach Nick Miller.

Miller had 14 points and Amber Neal scored 11 to lead the Female Flyers (9-3).

Anna Whelan scored 18 points and Vida Imani 11 for the Lady Irish (6-0).

St. Joseph led 9-8 after the first quarter but Catholic came back to lead 24-19 at the half.

Whelan scored 13 points in the third quarter including three 3-pointers as Catholic opened up a 45-28 lead.

“They were quick and had some talented players, but we didn’t play very well and that’s not a good combination,” said coach Miller.

The Female Flyers’ Lynsey Booker left the game with 6:30 left in the third quarter with an injury and did not return.

St. Joseph visits Raceland on Monday.
