PROCTORVILLE — The stars will be out during the daylight.

The NAPA Auto Parts Hoops Classic at Fairland High School on Saturday will feature some top area teams and nine players who have signed or verbally committed to Division I college programs.

“Our goal is to host the premiere girls’ basketball showcase even in all the Tri-State and I believe we’ve done that this year,” said Fairland Lady Dragons’ coach Jon Buchanan.

The undercard games have the South Point and Fairland 7th grade teams playing at 11 a.m. followed by their 8th grade teams at 12:15 p.m.

The main event tips-off at 2 p.m. with Ashland, Ky., (7-3) facing Columubus Centennial (6-4), one of the top Division II teams in the Columbus area.

Boyd County (7-4) faces Newark Catholic (8-1) at 3:45 p.m. Newark Catholic is currently ranked No. 2 in the Ohio Division IV polls. Boyd County has split games with Ashland this season and beat Fairland 61-51 earlier this season.

Marietta (6-3) plays Chesapeake (5-4) at 5:30 p.m. and the nightcap has one of West Virginia’s top Class AAA teams – Huntington (5-1) — playing host Fairland (6-2).

The Lady Dragons feature 6-4 Terra Stapleton who has signed with Michigan.

Tickets for the all-day event are $6. NAPA Auto Parts will raffle door prizes for people in attendance such as free oil chances and other NAPA merchandise.
