PEDRO — This one is going on the highlight tape.

After losing 65-29 to virtually the same team last year, the Rock Hill Redwomen gained a measure of revenge with a 66-50 upset of the Northwest Lady Mohawks on Saturday.

“We finally put one together. I’ve been waiting on this to happen. We played well,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

“We out-hustled them. The defense played really well. It was a complete team effort. We didn’t turn the ball over and we didn’t give up many second shots.”

Sparking the turnaround was Kasey Russell who scored a career-high 30 points including 14-of-19 at the foul line.

Rock Hill (3-8) led 8-5 at the end of the first quarter and outscored Northwest 13-3 in the second quarter to lead 21-8 at the half.

“Our defense rotated well and we rebounded tremendous,” said Damron.

Northwest cut the deficit to 32-22 after three quarters, but both teams began scoring at a faster pace in the fourth quarter.

Rock Hill got a pair of 3-pointers form Lindy Simpson, Samantha Dillon had five points and Russell poured in 19 points with a pair of 3-pointers and she converted 13-of-15 at the foul line.

Simpson finished with 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Darby Jenkins had 18 points to lead Northwest.
