PEDRO — The St. Joseph Flyers understood the drawing on the eraser board.

Flyers’ head coach Jeremy Williams drew up the play and his players executed it to perfection as Troy Scott scored with time running out to five St. Joseph a 43-42 win over the Rock Hill Redmen on Tuesday.

“We set up the play and Troy delivered. He admitted afterwards that he was a little nervous, but the kids executed it,” said Williams.

After a timeout to set up the play, Scott scored on a driving layup with 13 seconds to play.

Rock Hill had a play ready but missed and the ball was knocked out of bounds with 1.1 seconds left. But the Redmen had to launch a long 3-point attempt on the inbounds play and the shot fell short as the horn sounded.

“We didn’t defend as well as we could the whole game except for at the end. We did a nice job of pressuring them and not letting them get a good look,” said Williams.

Wulf Goheen had 13 points and three steals for the Flyers (8-5). Hunter Pemberton hit four 3-pointers for 12 points, Scott had four assists and nine points and Chris Lewis grabbed 12 rebounds.

Rock Hill (1-11) was led by Austin Collins with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Joey Stidham added 10 points.

The Flyers were just 17-of-50 from the field for 34 percent including 5-of-22 from the 3-point line.

“We just couldn’t’ get in a rhythm tonight. We kept putting up a lot of shots. We weren’t very patient,” said Williams.

The Redmen hit 17-of-39 attempts for 44 percent and 3-of-10 from behind the arc.

Goheen scored seven and Pemberton hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter to help offset seven points by Collins as St. Joseph took a 15-13 lead.

Chance Blankenship had six points and Stidham five in the second quarter as Rock Hill cut the lead to 27-26 at the break. Scott and Goheen combined for seven points.

Joseph Payton had five points in the third quarter and the Flyers went up 36-33 and set up the thrilling finish.
