CHESAPEAKE — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of two elderly people found shot in their home.

According to a press release, deputies were called to the home in the 1900 block of County Road 124 in Chesapeake about 8:50 a.m. this morning after a relative found the couple.

The investigation is in its early stages but it appears the gunshots were self-inflicted, the release stated.

“We do not feel there is any need for the public to be alarmed,” Sheriff Jeff Lawless said.

The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office pronounced the couple dead at the scene.

The names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
