Ronald Roberts

Ronald P. Roberts, 72, of South Point, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born July 27, 1941, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Clifford and Mary Bailey Roberts. He was a truck driver for J.B. Hunt Trucking and a subcontractor for Bailey Construction. Ronald was a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Army and served three tours in Vietnam.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Jean Rowsey Roberts; one brother, Donald Roberts; and one sister, Linda Pennington. He is survived by a son, Richard Roberts, of South Point; three daughters, Teresa Stewart, of Ironton, and Valerie Roberts and Dreama Miller, both of South Point; one sister, Sandy Runyon, of South Point; two brothers, Charlie Roberts, of New London, and Clifford “Pete” Roberts, of Texas; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Beginning at 4 p.m. today there will be a gathering of family and friends at his home at 62 Township Road 1402 in South Point to celebrate the life of Ronald P. Roberts. Donna Kay Beard, 75, of Chesapeake, wife of Charles Beard, passed away on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. She was born on June 22, 1938, in Ironton, a daughter of the late Vernon and Marie (Sark) Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Butch Hughes, and a sister, Miriam Taylor.
She was a retired schoolteacher having taught at Collins Career Center. She was a member of Community of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Joy Circle. She is survived by her children, Joe Hughes, of Riverview, Fla.; Debbie Hughes, of South Point; stepchildren, Kathy (Roger) Potter, of Lexington, Ky.; Steve Beard, of Russell Springs, Ky.; and Cyndee (Mark) Grindley, of Brandon, Fla.; sister, Linda (Ron) Eicher, of Columbus; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Teena.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to hospice. Funeral services will be 6 p.m. today at Beard Mortuary in Huntington, W.Va., with the Rev. Steve Hamrick officiating. Hoy Lewis
Hoy H. Lewis, 84, of Raceland, Ky., died on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Raceland Christian Church, 210 Caroline Road, in Raceland, under the direction of Carman Funeral Home of Flatwoods, Ky. Burial will be at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. Visitation hours will be 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.
