Mary Bruce

Mary A. Bruce, 92, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. The Lost Creek, Ky., native was born July 26, 1921, a daughter to James and Minnie Jordan Keaton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Merrill Bruce, who passed away Nov. 29, 1977.
Mrs. Bruce attended Fairview Schools in Kentucky, was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was a member of the Goodwill Club at Sherman Thompson Towers and loved to fish.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Linda Spillman, Velma Joan White and Rhonda Bruce; and two sons, Gerald D. Bruce and Donald E. Bruce.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Brenda Bruce of Ironton; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Tom Wallace of Martinsville; a special friend, Tom Wright of Ironton; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery and visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Marietta Carpenter, 95, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Argillite, Ky. native was born Nov. 23, 1918, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Eastham and Wilma Robinson Eastham. She was the widow of the late John P. Carpenter.
Marietta attended Ironton City Schools and was a retired lacer from Wilson’s Sporting Goods. She was an active member of the local union at Wilson’s for many years. She was active in the Ironton Moose for many years and was a member of the Women of the Moose Auxiliary. She was of the Methodist Faith.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Connie Sue Moore; son, Bill Carpenter; sister, Judy Ravencraft; and seven brothers, Joseph, Earl, George, John, Grover, Carl, and Paul Eastham.
She is survived by sister, Gloria Sexton of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Wayne Wise of Forestdale; sister-in-law, Eva Chase of Ashland, Ky.; grandchildren, Terri Vogler, Johnny Carpenter, Paul Eddie McMackin, Cathy Moore, Denise Paulus, Steve Moore, David Wise, Tonya Waller and Shane Moore; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Matney officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Kathy Layman, 40, of South Point, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.

Tabitha Nelson
Tabitha Nelson, 92, of Ironton, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at New Jerusalem Christian Center with Bishop Kenneth Lisath officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.  Visitation is an hour prior to service.
