WILLOW WOOD — Something that hasn’t happened did happen.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings have held their composure most of the season, but Portsmouth Notre Dame’s press caused some problems in the second quarter as the Lady Titans won 64-50 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“Give credit to their press. It gave us fits,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker. “We just lost our composure in a situation we are usually successful in with pressure.”

Meranda Hayes scored six points as Symmes Valley took a 15-9 first quarter lead.

But Katie Stevenson and Brooke Pierron scored seven points each and Hagen Schaeffer had six more as the Lady Titans outscored the Lady Vikings 23-7 in the second quarter to take a 32-22 halftime lead.

Notre Dame pulled away to a 51-34 lead after three quarters.

“Our help-side defense was not where we want it to be tonight, either. Unfortunately, the negatives out-weighed the positive things we did tonight,” said Walker.

Hayes had 12 points, Breanna Brumfield 11 and Kalli Hunt nine to lead the Lady Vikings (6-9, 4-6).

Notre Dame (12-4, 10-1) was led by Stevenson with 22 points, Schaeffer with 18 and Pierron had 13.
