SOUTH POINT — An early morning fire on Tuesday is under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal.

The fire occurred at about 1:15 a.m. and is believed to have originated in the building housing Spaulding’s Floor and Wall in the 7000 block of County Road 1 in South Point, but the cause of the inferno is not known at this time. The fire also destroyed a home and damaged another residence.

“We have dispatched two investigators to the scene at the behest of the local first responders,” said Michael Duchesne, assistant director of communications for the Ohio Fire Marshal. “Obviously, it’s still very early in the investigation. We don’t know the cause or the exact origin at this time.”
