COAL GROVE — It only seemed appropriate that the seniors stole the spotlight on Senior Night.
Seniors Morgan Sites and Brittany Webb combined for 20 points as the Coal Grove Lady Hornets edged the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 49-45 in overtime Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“It was Senior Night and our two seniors played great,” said Coal Grove coach Rick Roach.
Sites had nine points and nine rebounds, Webb scored 11 points and Summer Willis led the Lady Hornets with 12 points.
Kaylee Curry scored 15 points and Sydnee Hall eight points for Chesapeake (9-11, 4-5).
Willis and Webb combined for 10 points as Coal Grove (8-14, 4-6) took a 14-9 first quarter lead.
“Willis had an awesome first quarter but got in foul trouble and had to sit out a lot of the second quarter,” said Roach.
Curry had eight points as Chesapeake outscored Coal Grove 12-3 in the second quarter to take a 21-17 halftime lead.
Each team scored nine points in the third quarter and the Lady Panthers were up 30-26. Atiya Spaulding had six points in the quarter for Chesapeake.
Curry scored seven points in the fourth quarter, but Webb scored seven points and the Lady Hornets trailed by one point.
Leslie Mulkey was fouled with 0.2 seconds left and made one of two shots to send the game into overtime.
Mulkey had a basket in the overtime and Jacy Jones converted 4-of-6 free throws to seal the win.
