CHESAPEAKE — In honor of the Beatles 50th anniversary of their first visit to America, the Chesapeake Panthers could easily have been singing a tribute Friday to the Fab Four, “You hurt me then. You’re back again. No, no, no, not a second time.”
Last week River Valley won 58-55 as they shot 54 percent and Tyler Twyman scored 32 points including eight 3-pointers. In this meeting, the Raiders made just eight field goals as a team.
The Panthers decided it was time to sing “Not A Second Time” as they crushed the Raiders 60-20 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We played well tonight. We didn’t play great offensively, but we played well defensively. We just shut them down,” said Chesapeake coach Ryan Davis.
The defense clamped down on Twyman who made just two 3-point goals and scored 10 points.
Gage Rhoades was the 3-point master in this game with five triples as he scored 15 points. Andrew Saunders added nine points and Brad Meadows scored eight.
Rhoades hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 17-6 lead.
The Panthers held the Raiders to three points in the second quarter and it was 28-9 at the half.
Saunders scored seven of his points in the third quarter as River Valley had just six total points as the Panthers built a 45-15 cushion.
Meadows scored six points early in the fourth quarter as the Panthers outscored the Raiders 15-5.
