SOUTH POINT — Finishing with a flourish.

South Point seniors celebrated in a big way as they helped the Pointers rout the East Carter Raiders 63-37 Saturday on Senior Night.

“Of all my senior nights, this was the best I’ve ever enjoyed,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes.

“We played good perimeter defense and we dominated the glass. We only gave them one shot. We were just too long for them. Everyone played well together. The guys are really coming together and playing well.”

Senior Brandon Barnes scored 23 points as he hit 9-of-14 field goal attempts including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Senior Eli Ketron had 15 points and 12 rebounds and senior Audric Harlow added eight points for the Pointers (11-6).

Junior point guard John Johnson joined in with nine points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Evan Brooks scored 12 points for East Carter (11-11).

Ketron scored 11 points and Barnes had eight points in the first quarter as South Point took a 22-17 lead.

The Pointers held East Carter to five points in the second quarter and the lead was 38-22 at the half.

The score was 49-33 after the third quarter. Barnes had eight points early in the fourth quarter as the Pointers continued to pull away.

The Pointers visit River Valley on Tuesday, host Lincoln County Wednesday and visit Ironton Friday.
