PEDRO — What a difference a week makes.
Coal Grove won 49-45 in overtime last week in a regular season game, but the Chesapeake Lady Panthers were able to get some revenge with a 49-37 win Wednesday in the Division III sectional tournament.
Chesapeake coach Chris Ball said there were two key factors in the Lady Panthers ability to get a win this time.
“We were able to finish tonight. The last time we played them we gave it away late,” said Ball. “And we did a better job than the last time on the offensive and defensive ends rebounding. That mad ea difference.”
Chesapeake (10-12) plays Oak Hill at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the sectional finals.
“It was good to get a tournament win. We have 13 girls on the roster and 12 of them return. Any tournament win is a good win,” said Ball.
Kaylee Curry had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead Chesapeake. Sydnee Hall scored 17 and had seven rebounds. Atiya Spaulding grabbed five rebounds.
Coal Grove (8-15) was led by Leslie Mulkey with 10 points. Leah Crum added eight points.
Jacy Jones scored five points in the first quarter as Coal Grove went up 8-4.
Curry had six points in the second quarter as the Lady Panthers took a 16-12 halftime lead.
Curry had seven more points in the third quarter and it was 29-25.
Mulkey scored four points in the fourth quarter, but Curry got seven more and Hall was 7-of-8 from the foul line to seal the win.
