Dinner to benefit ill church member

The Getaway Community Church is hosting a spaghetti dinner on March 1 with proceeds from the dinner going to Brenda Webb.

Webb is a member of the church’s congregation and was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

“Last Thursday, on my way to work I found out about Brenda,” said Justin Berry, pastor of Getaway Community. “That evening as I began to tell our youth group about this I had suggested that we might do a fundraiser to help out someone from the church who had helped us out so much.”

Berry says that Webb, and her husband Sid, are genuinely good people who are beloved by their congregation. He also says that the church has an obligation to help out one of its own.

“Brenda and Sid are two of the most kindhearted people you will meet,” Berry said. “They are very giving, their characters and hearts speak louder than words.”

The kindness that the Webbs’ exhibit is evident by the fact they never turn down a chance to help someone in need, Berry says.

“When have they ever turned a blind eye,” Berry asked. “They have touched so many people in the community. I can’t say they are perfect but I can say I have never seen them pass up an opportunity to help someone.”

The benefit dinner is scheduled for Saturday March 1 from noon to until 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. The ticket will include a salad, a spaghetti dinner, dessert, and a drink.

“We will take walk ups,” Berry said. “But we would like people to call ahead if possible. That way we can be prepared for any number of guests. It’s a full course meal.”

The Getaway Community Church is located on State Route 243. To make reservations, or to know more about the dinner contact pastor Berry at 304-638-7782 or his wife Ashley at 304-638-7783.
