Six local wrestlers advance

HEATH — One good weekend deserves another.

Six local wrestlers advanced to the district wrestling tournament after placing among the top four finishers in the sectional meet held Friday and Saturday at Heath High School.

The Chesapeake Panthers had two wrestlers advance while the Fairland Dragons qualified four wrestlers.

The Panthers’ Logan McCloud placed second in the 106-pound division. McCloud pinned Cody Welch of Nelsonville-York to reach the finals before losing in the finals to top-seeded Jordan Burkhold of Crooksville by a pin at the 1:30 mark.

Chesapeake’s Joey Haynes was fourth in the 145-pound class.

Fairland’s Austin Earles also placed second as he finished runner-up in the 120-pound class. He beat Zachary Davis of Belpre 18-6 to reach the title match when he was pinned by Alex Gordy in 5:56.

The Dragons’ Clayton Edmnds was third at 170 pounds. He pinned Mikey Crispen of Adena in 1:33.

Taking fourth place for the Dragons was Darren Bishop at 152 pounds and Zach McKinney in the 285-pound division.

Finishing fifth was Fairland’s Chris Chianesi in the 126-pound class and Trevor Christian at 132.

The top four finishers at the district meet advance to the state meet.
