A Kentucky woman is headed to prison for 12 years for several burglaries she helped another commit.

Tawanna Talbert, 39, of 900 Heaberlin Road, Wurtland, was sentenced Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court after previously pleading guilty to one second-degree count of burglary and three counts of complicity to burglary.

Talbert pleaded guilty back on Jan. 9 and was expected to testify during the trial of her co-defendant John Clark.

Clark pleaded guilty Feb. 26 to five counts of second-degree burglary a few days before his trial.

Judge Charles Cooper sentenced the man to 20 years in prison.

Before her sentencing, Talbert’s attorney, Michael Mearan, said his client cooperated fully with the investigation and her drug addiction is what led to her poor choices.

“There is no reason for her to be sitting here today expect for very poor judgment,” Mearan said. “… Had she continued her ways we’d be visiting the cemetery instead of Marysville,”

Talbert also apologized to her family and children before sentencing.
