Good things happening in county

Several good things are happening around Lawrence County.

Here are some of the highlights for this week.

• The Fairland Lady Dragons varsity basketball team defeated the Sugarcreek Garaway Lady Pirates to claim the Division III Logan regional championship this past Saturday. The Lady Dragons will move on and play in the state tournament at 3 p.m. Friday at the Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University. This marks the first trip for the Lady Dragons. We congratulate and say good luck to coach Jon Buchanan, staff, managers and players.

• More than two dozen volunteers along with the Friends of Ironton civic organization converged on the Ro-Na this past weekend to continue work to restore and make renovations to the theater. We encourage those in the community and county who can volunteer and help move this project forward. This can once again be a gem of the city of Ironton, county and Tri-State.

• About 200 runners participated in the Lawrence County Board of Developmental Disabilities annual 5K walk/run this past weekend in South Point.

Not only does this provide an outlet to promote health, but more importantly it presents awareness and aids the programs and efforts of the Board of DD. This is one of the many events residents can take part in throughout March.
