Arrest made in home invasion case

Huntington, W.Va. — A man who was shot during an alleged home invasion was arrested over the weekend by West Virginia police.

Joseph F. Willis, 36, of Ironton, had been in Cabell Huntington Hospital since the shooting, which occurred on March 7, at a Kitts Hill Home.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said Willis was arrested this past Friday upon his release from the hospital and taken to the West Virginia Western Regional Jail.

Willis has not yet been transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Willis was shot by a homeowner on County Road 19 after that homeowner heard a noise in his house and went to investigate.

Willis had allegedly broken through the door of the home and the homeowner fired multiple shots, hitting Willis in the cheek and abdomen.

The suspect then fled in his own car and wrecked, after which point he was taken to CHH.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner, who was uninjured.
