The deadline for the 15th annual Ohio University Southern Student EMPixx Awards has been changed to Monday, March 24.

The original deadline of Feb. 21 was extended because of snow days.

The competition is open to high schools in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky that have a video/TV/computer animation production class and students who are exploring these fields on their own. The Electronic Media Department of Ohio University Southern presents the annual Student EMPixx Awards to recognize high school level video production and computer animation excellence.

Director of electronic media at OUS Don Moore said the competition gives high school students an opportunity to showcase their artistic ability while engaging with fellow students from different schools.

“Not only does this give them the chance to put a trophy in their school’s trophy case, it also gives them a forum to meet students with like interests,” Moore said. “It also gives us a chance to bring them to campus, which is always a plus. When they see your facility, your campus and see what your students are doing, it is a good thing.”

The awards ceremony is 11:15 a.m. on Friday, April 11, in the Bowman Auditorium. Workshops from multiple mediums will start at 9:20 a.m. in the Riffe Building. The 15- to 20-minute workshops are free for all students.

“More than 100 students have registered already,” Moore said. “We’ve had nearly 400 in the past and I anticipate between 200 and 300 this year.”

The intent of the Student EMPixx Awards is to recognize excellence in the creation of video, audio and multimedia projects. There is no charge for submission of materials, and no limit on the number of submissions from each school.

Awards will be given by electronic media department personnel to winners in recognition of high school level excellence in audio, video, and multimedia production in the following categories: animation; audio production; digital photography; entertainment; independent; multimedia print; multimedia Web; news cast; news feature/story; radio commercial; sports news feature; and

video commercial.
