Now that’s the way to start a season.

Kaitlin Brown pitched a five-inning no-hitter as the South Point Lady Pointers opened the season with a 12-0 win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.

Brown struck out four and walked two in getting the win.

“We started the season off with a bang,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tanner Heaberlin. “Kaitlyn Brown pitched an outstanding game going five innings with no hits and two walks, and helped herself at the plate going 2-3 with two RBIs.”

The Lady Pointers had 12 hits led by Abbey Winkler who went 3-4 with a double and two runs batted in.

Andi Kleinman and Brown were 2-3 with two RBIs, Emily Powell 2-3 with an RBI, and Hannah Carey 2-4 with an RBI.

“Abbey Winkler had a big night going 3-4 and we had four other players with multiple hits. It was a total team effort,” said Heaberlin.

“Everyone hit the ball well and we capitalized on the other team’s mistakes and we had no errors. Being early in the season, I’m extremely proud of our effort.”

South Point scored eight runs in the first inning to virtually settle the issue.

Winkler and Haley Rawlins singled for a run. Sylvia Griffith walked and Kleinman signled for two runs.

Powell reached on an error and Brown singled for two runs. Powell singled and Winkler doubled for two RBIs. Carey singled home the final run.

The Lady Pointers scored four more runs in the second inning.

Griffith was hit by a pitch, Kleinman singled, and Bonnie Hileman hit into a fielder’s choice.

Brown and Powell both single to drive in runs and Winkler was safe on an error as two more runs scored.
