Winning cures a lot of things.

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers cured a three-game losing streak Tuesday as they outscored the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 11-9 for their first win of the season.

“It feels good to get a win under out belts,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields. “I hope that the girls gained some confidence in themselves tonight.”

Ironton (1-3) banged out 15 hits led the senior trio of Laken White who went 3-4 with a home run, Meghan Taylor was 2-3 with two doubles and Saige Fields was 2-3.

“The seniors stepped up tonight at the plate,” said coach Fields. “I’m hoping we will capitalize on this win and continue to improve and cut down on the errors. Just little mistakes cause major issues for us.”

Ironton’s Breanna Klaiber went 3-4 while Aley Carmon was 3-4 and picked up the save in relief of starter Kylee Metzger who got the win.

Klaiber and Carmon also had doubles.

The Lady Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning only to have Portsmouth rally for seven runs in the second to take the lead.

Ironton tied the game in the bottom of the second and got a run in the third to lead 8-7.

Portsmouth tied the game in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Tigers gook the lead for good with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Gabby Guthrie had a home run for Portsmouth.

Ironton visits Manchester Wednesday and Greenup County, Ky., on Friday.
