PROCTORVILLE — The linescore told the story.

Fairland scored four runs in the bottom of the 10th inning after Coal Grove scored three in the top of the inning as the Lady Dragons edged the Lady Hornets 9-8 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It was a great game. Both teams played hard and never quit,” said Fairland coach Mindy Clark.

“Allison (Shepherd) threw a great game. She went 10 innings and knocked in the winning run. And her catcher Mollie Morris did a nice job. They tried to steal twice and she threw them both out. She was great behind the plate.”

Coal Grove took an 8-5 in the top of the 10th.

Brittany Webb singled, Kaitlyn Murphy reached on an error and Leah Crum had a two-run double. Kelci Grove then singled home a run.

But Fairland answered in the bottom of the inning.

Tiffani Christian reached on an error, Morris singled and both moved up on a passed ball. Cailtlin Stone singled in a run and another passed ball scored a run. Ellen Hinshaw walked and Maddy Kazee hit into a fielder’s choice for the tying run.

Shepherd then doubled to drive in the winning run.

Fairland (2-3, 1-1) had 12 hits with Morris going 3-6, Stone 2-5, Kazee 2-4 with three RBIs and Mackenzie Riley 2-5.

Crum was 4-5 with three RBIs, Deanna Bentley 2-5, Grove 2-5 and Webb 3-5.
