PEDRO — The first order of business is always win the league game.

The Rock Hill Redwomen opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 12-2 five inning win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers Wednesday.

Sami Nixon tossed a five-hitter and the Redwomen collected 16 hits.

“It’s always good to get a conference win,” said Rock Hill coach Sammy Gue. “Sami pitched well and we hit the ball. It was a good team win. We hit the ball well up and down the lineup.”

Rock Hill (6-1, 1-0) erupted for seven runs in the first inning. Kaci Russell had a three-run double and Riann Keating a two-run double to highlight the uprising.

The Redwomen scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and ended the game with three runs in the fifth.

Nixon and Jenna Lane singled and scored on Jill Hairston’s two-run double. Brooke Hanshaw then doubled home Hairston to end it.

Chesapeake scored its two runs in the fourth inning on singles by Kelsey Huff, Lindsey Davidson and Alyssa Scott.

Lane was 3-4, Russell 3-3 with three RBIs, Hairston 2-4 with two RBIs, Makenzi Harrah, Brooke Eastham and Nixon were all 2-3.
