PROCTORVILLE — It was a case of doing what needed to be done.

The Rock Hill Redmen got the runs they needed and made the plays when needed as they beat the Fairland Dragons 6-3 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It was one of those game where we were able to drive in some runs and then hold them off,” said Redmen coach Barry Litteral.

The Dragons had 12 hits but left 13 runners on base including the bases loaded in three straight innings. It left Fairland coach Bryan Ward scratching his head.

“We had chances but we didn’t take advantage of it,” said Ward. “We left the bases loaded in three straight innings. You’re not going to win a lot of games like that.”

Fairland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Kyle Sowards and Trace Adkins singled, Sowards stole third and came home on when Garrett Scheibelhood reached on an error.

Rock Hill (6-1, 2-1) tied the game in the second.

Corey Noel walked, Sean McFann put down a sacrifice bunt, Chance Blankenship reached on an error and Aaron Dalton had an RBI single.

The Redmen took the lead with three runs in the fourth.

Blankenship singled and Drew McClaskey doubled him home. Jonah Cox was safe on an error and Jack Goodwin walked to load the bases. Johnathon Joseph hit into a fielder’s choice for a run and Jordan Hairston singled in Cox.

Fairland got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Brandon Burcham and Dylan Murphy singled, Trace Adkins walked and Collin Damron was hit by a pitch.

Rock Hill scored two insurance runs in the fifth on walks to Blankenship and McClaskey and Dalton’s two-run double.

The Dragons got a run in the seventh when Murphy singled, stole second and scored on a pair of groundouts.

Joseph got the win as he struck out 11 and walked four. Dalton went 3-5, Noel 2-3 and Hairston 2-4 for the Redmen.

Murphy was 3-3, Curry 2-2 and Burcham 2-4 for Fairland.
