Redwomen hold off Fairland

PROCTORVILLE — A quick start and a quick ending helped the Rock Hill Redwomen.

Rock Hill jumped out to a 6-0 lead and used a play at home to get the final out of the game to beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 6-5 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Redwomen (8-1, 3-0) were leading 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. Fairland rallied for three runs but Rock Hill threw out a runner at home to end the game and get the win.

Rock Hill took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Nixon had a bunt single, Brooke Hanshaw singled, Kenzie Harrah walked to load the bases.

Brooke Eastham reached on an error to score a run and Riann Keating singled in two runs.

The lead went to 5-0 in the second.

Jenna Lane walked, stole second and Nixon reached on an error. Hanshaw followed with a two-run single.

The Redwomen got a run in the top of the third when Kaci Russell singled, stole second, went to third when and Keating reached on an error and a passed ball.

Fairland (2-4, 1-2) cut the deficit to 6-2 in the bottom of the third.

Caitlin Stone had a bunt single and Ellen Hinshaw and Maddy Kazee followed with RBI doubles.

In the seventh, Mollie Morris had a bunt single, Stone was safe on an error and Hinshaw had a two-run double. Kazee then doubled home Hinshaw.

Allison Shepherd singled but Kazee was thrown out at home on a close play.

Nixon struck out 12 and walked one to get the win. Shepherd took the loss as she fanned three and walked four.

Russell went 3-4 and Hanshaw 2-4 with two RBIs.

Hinshaw was 3-4 with three RBIs, Stone 3-4 and Kazze 2-4 and two RBIs.
