SOUTH POINT — This is one time South Point coach Tanner Heaberlin didn’t mind his team not listening to what he said.

The Lady Pointers ignored his advice as they rallied from an early deficit to beat the Russell Lady Red Devils 11-6 on Thursday.

“We had a rocky first inning, but we scored five in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back,” said Heaberlin.

“I told them we didn’t’ have to get all the runs back that inning, but they did plus one. We had a very solid defensive effort after the first inning and our bats were on tonight against a very good pitcher from Russell.”

Russell (9-6) used two errors and four hits to take a 4-0 led in the top of the first inning, but South Point rallied for five runs in the bottom of the frame.

Abbey Winkler, Hannah Carey, Haley Rawlins and Sylvia Griffith all singled for two runs. Andi Kleinman walked to force in a run, a passed ball scored the tying run and Bonnie Hileman hit a sacrifice fly for the lead.

Winkler doubled and Rawlins and Kleinman had RBI singles as the lead went to 7-4 in the second.

Russell got a run in the third only to have South Point answer with two in the fourth when Winkler singled and Carey hit a two-run homer.

Kaitlyn Brown hit a solo home run in the fifth and it was 10-5. Rawlins tripled and Griffith doubled and it was 11-5 in the sixth.

Russell added a harmless run in the seventh.

South Point (6-2) had 12 hits with Winkler going 3-3, Rawlins 3-4 and Carey and Griffith 2-4.
