AID — The Rock Hill Redwomen used their weekend to play plenty of softball and try to get better.

After playing three games in the annual Lady Vikings “Valley of Thunder,” Redwomen coach Sam Gue said mission accomplished.

“It was a good to play some good teams. It can only make us better,” said Gue. “It was a great weekend. (Symmes Valley coach Jeff Estep) and Symmes Valley put on a great tournament.”

Rock Hill lost 7-2 to Hilliard Darby in Saturday’s first game.

Sami Nixon suffered the loss. She struck out four and did not issue a walk.

Brooke Hanshaw was 2-4 with a run batted in. Lindy Simpson had a double.

The Redwomen beat Racine Southern 7-2 in Saturday’s second game behind the hitting of Riann Keating with a two-run triple and Sami Nixon with a two-run homer in the seventh inning.

Jordan Hairston got the win as she gave up six hits, struck out two and walked none.

On Friday, Hilliard Davidson blanked Rock Hill 3-0.

Nixon pitched well in defeat. She gave up only five hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Rock Hill’s only hits were singles by Brooke Hanshaw and Simpson.

Rock Hill plays at Ironton on Monday.
