SOUTH POINT — Pitching is always the key, but doing the little things was the key.

Good pitching and clutch plays were the difference as the South Point Pointers edged the Fairland Dragons 5-3 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Brandon Boggs got the win with a five-hit complete game. He struck out 10, walked four and hit a batter.

Brandon Burcham took the loss. He fanned five and walked one in six innings.

The Pointers snapped the scoreless tie with four runs in the second inning.

Chris Woodard singled and Patrick Jones doubled for a run. Logan Wade and Tyler Branch both reached on errors producing a run.

Christian Pritchard walked, move to third on a passed ball and Beau Taylor singled in a run. Trey Kearns hit a sacrifice fly to cap the rally.

Fairland came back to score all its runs in the third.

Kyle Sowards singled and Trace Adkins and Collin Damron walked to load the bases. Tyler Campbell had a two-run single and Garrett Scheibelhood singled in another run.

Campbell was thrown out at home trying to score on the play to end the inning.

South Point got an insurance run in the fourth when Pritchard singled, stole second and scored on Kearns’ base hit.

Jones was 2-3 and Pritchard 2-2 to lead South Point. Sowards was 2-4 to pace Fairland.
