AID — When they asked Mr. T’s character Clubber Lang his prediction in the movie Rocky III, his response was, “Pain.”

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings response to the Western Lady Indians’ threat was “Payne.”

Kaitlyn Payne pitched a complete game and went 4-for-4 including the game-winning RBI as the Lady Vikings edged Western 6-5 Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“Payne was clutch all over the place. She pitched well and had four hits and accounted for four of our six runs,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

The Lady Vikings (8-4, 6-2) got a run in the first when Stephanie Brown walked and scored on Payne’s triple.

A run scored in the second when Hannah Maynard walked, stole second, took third on a fielder’s choice and scored on a wild pitch.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third.

Brown singled, moved up on a wild pitch and scor3ed after hits by Payne and Tiara Hatfield. Payne scored when Sierra Ross grounded out.

Western got a run in the top of the fourth but the Lady Vikings got it back in the bottom of the inning when Maynard reached on an error and scored following a wild pitch and two ground outs.

Western got two runs in the sixth and tied the game with two in the seventh.

In the bottom off the seventh, Brown walked with one out and Cailtlin Carpenter sacrificed her to second.

Payne then doubled on the first pitch to score the winning run.

Symmes Valley visits Clay Thursday.
