AID — The Symmes Valley Vikings are proving that you have a chance if you get the bat on the ball.
The Vikings struck out just once and collected 12 hits as they routed the Latham Western Indians 12-0 in five innings Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference Division I game.
“We’ve been putting the ball in play and hitting the ball the last few games. We’re making better pitch selections when we swing,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.
Jacob Klaiber was 2-2 while Cameron Meadows, Lane Wilson and Jonathan Kouns all went 2-3 for the Vikings (10-2, 8-1).
Dillon McFann got the win with a two-hitter. He struck out 12, walked one and hit a batter.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then scored five times in the second.
Meadows and Wilson singled and Kouns had a two-run single while two more runs scored on a couple of errors to highlight the rally.
In a six-run fourth, Klaiber, Tanner Mays, Wilson and McFann all singled in runs and two errors scored two more.
