PORTSMOUTH — Trent Thompson didn’t change anything.

Thompson threw another solid game as he pitched a five-inning no-hitter as the Symmes Valley Vikings beat the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 12-1 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Thompson struck out nine, walked four and hit a batter in getting the win.

“He has thrown well the last two or three times out. He’s walked a few too many, but we’ working on that,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

Symmes Valley (11-2, 9-1) had 11 hits with Cameron Meadows going 2-2, Jacob Klaiber 2-3 and Seth Jarrell was 2-4.

The Vikings took a 3-0 lead in the first highlighted by hits from Cameron Meadows, Jonathan Kouns and Seth Jarrell.

A run scored in the second and three more in the third.

The Vikings put the game away with five runs in the fourth thanks to five walks and Lane Wilson’s two-run single.

Clay (4-9, 3-6) got a run in the first on two Viking errors.
