Across the board raises were approved for hourly and salaried employees of the Lawrence County EMS at Tuesday’s regular commission meeting.

Because of scheduling conflicts the commission met earlier this week, instead of on its regular Thursday meeting date.

All hourly employees received a 25-cent on the hour raise with those workers at the Ironton station getting an additional 12 cents on the hour. Five of the salaried employees received a raise of 1.5 percent of their salary with the supervisor at the Ironton station getting a raise of 2.25 percent.

Those working at the Ironton station are getting more money because 50 percent of the runs go through that station and those employees have to pay Ironton income tax and those at the other stations do not.

Those raises will cost approximately an additional $42,000 in gross salaries. The EMS has a total budget of $3.4 million with $780,000 from the general fund. The remainder comes from charges for runs. The raises go into effect on May 11.

In other action the commissioners:

Accepted the resignations of Peter Lunsford, Chad Kelly and Brandon Best from the county EMS;

Proclaimed May 3-10 as National Osteogenesis Imperfecta Awareness Week. OI is a genetic disorder, often called brittle bone disease;

Approved a proclamation encouraging the Ohio General Assembly to maintain local control of the ADAMHS board;

Received the weekly dog warden’s report where six dogs were destroyed, four were adopted or went to rescue and none were redeemed by their owners.
