CHESAPEAKE — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings got good hitting and pitching from their pitcher like many of their games this season.
The difference this time: a different pitcher.
Hannah Maynard threw 4.2 strong innings and hit a home run as the Lady Vikings edged the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 4-2 Wednesday.
“Hannah Maynard did a nice job stepping up. She ran out of gas in the fifth and we went with (Kaitlyn Payne). Hannah threw well and she hit the ball well,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
Melanie Noble threw well in defeat. She gave up only five hits, struck out seven and walked two.
Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Breanna Skeens walked and Kelsey Huff doubled.
The Lady Vikings (14-2) took a 2-1 lead in the third.
Autumn Keathley walked, Stephanie Brown put down a sacrifice bunt and Sierra Ross doubled her home. Payne followed with an RBI single.
Hannah Maynard hit a leadoff home run to center in the fourth to put the Lady Vikings up 3-1.
Chesapeake got within 3-2 in the fifth.
With one out, Huff and Noble walked and Lyndsey Davidson had an RBI single.
Symmes Valley added an insurance run in the sixth.
Hannah Mays hit a slug bunt and the ball was thrown away at first base allowing her to circle the bases.
