CORNING — Not only did the hits have eyes, they might have been wearing glasses, too.

Miller seemed to have hits with eyes that found the right holes as the Falcons edged the St. Joseph Flyers 4-1 Saturday in the Division IV sectional tournament.

“Their hits just seemed to find holes,” said Flyers’ coach Brent Wirzfeld. “We played pretty well defensively, but we couldn’t string our hits together. It just wasn’t our day.”

Miller (7-12) visits Symmes Valley at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the sectional finals.

Miller took a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

Tylor Newman walked, stole second and scored when Hunter Starlin reached on an error.

The Flyers tied the game in the fifth.

Jacob Clark was safe on an error, stole second, Hunter Pemberton sacrificed him to third base and he scored on a squeeze bunt by Joseph Payton.

But Miller scored three times in the bottom of the sixth.

Starlin and Colton Pargon singled to open the inning. A throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt scored the tie-breaking run.

Dakota Willson then hit a fly ball that got past a diving Flyers’ outfielder for a triple as two more runs scored.

St. Joseph (3-13) loaded the bases in the seventh but couldn’t manage to score.

Pemberton pitched well in taking the loss. He struck out four, walked two, gave up seven hits and only two runs were earned.

Wilson was the winner as he struck out three, walked two and gave up five hits.
