Tom Allyn, owner of Allyn’s Jewelers in Ironton, has taken on the task of promoting the Huntington, W.Va., Honor Flight Network, which is dedicated to ensuring American veterans visit their respective memorials.

“We are asking people for donations for Honor Flight,” Allyn said. “I heard about this and it seemed like a good thing. These veterans wouldn’t be able to go otherwise. They get flown to Washington, D.C., get fed and get free souvenirs.”

Any veteran who served in any capacity during World War II, the Korean War or Vietnam is eligible for the Honor Flight, a nonprofit organization founded in 2005.
