B.J. Hannon
William “B.J.” Hannon, 86, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 18, 1927, a son of the late Raymond Hannon and Anne Mayne Hannon Russell. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lavena Stilton Hannon.
Mr. Hannon was a 1945 graduate of Ironton High School and was a Navy veteran. He was a former plant manager and the first employee hired by Cabletron when they opened in Ironton. He was also a former employee of Wilson’s Sporting Goods. B.J. was very active in Ironton sports. From 1962 – 2013 he was a coach, leader, treasurer, president and friend to many parents and children of Ironton. He also coached St. Joe’s Girls High School basketball and volleyball. B.J. enjoyed coaching and impacting the lives of the youth and adult leagues he managed. In addition, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren grow up. He enjoyed his 5th Street neighborhood gang. He especially enjoyed spending time with great granddaughter, Julia.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Barney, Ralph and Bob Hannon; and sister, Avanelle Giebel.
He is survived by son, Jeffrey Hannon of Ironton; grandson, Isaac Hannon of Ironton; two granddaughters, Ashley Hannon of Durham, N.C. and Shay Hannon of New York City, N.Y.; great granddaughter, Julia Hannon of South Point; and a special extended family friend, Jessica Basham of Princeton, W.Va.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850. Friends may call Saturday from noon until time of the service at the funeral home. Infant Elisha Smith
Infant Elisha O’Ryan Smith died Tuesday, June 10, 2014.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., with the Rev. J.E. Smith, Randy Cordle and pastor Lloyd L. Bailey. Georgianna Chatfield
Georgianna “Ann” Eaches Chatfield, 89, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Jo-Lin Health Care Center. The Ironton native was born Nov. 9, 1924, a daughter to the late George Thomas and Gertrude Mae Harrison Eaches. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Franklin Chatfield Sr., in May 2009.
Mrs. Chatfield was a 1942 graduate of Kitts Hill High School where she was a star basketball player. She was the oldest charter member remaining at Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church and loved to sing in the church quartet years ago. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Kay Classing; two brothers, Carl Eaches and Kenneth Eaches; a sister, Rosemary Brown; and two infant siblings, Bobbie Eaches and Stewart Eaches.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith (Ed) Pierson, of Ironton; a son, Joseph Franklin (Margot) Chatfield Jr., of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, Denise Ann (Doug) Gambill, of Columbus, Charles David Classing, of South Point, James Kevin (Tiffany) Pierson, of Ironton, Stephen Allen Classing and Michael Joseph (Erica) Classing, of Columbus; two great-grandchildren, Shelby Ann Gambill and Camryn Diane Pierson; brother, Richard Eaches, of South Point; son-in-law, Fred Classing, of South Point; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor (Bill) Peterson, of Ironton, and Catherine (Ed) Chatfield, of Ironton; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with pastors Jim Orrick and Kenny Hurst officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Joseph Franklin Chatfield Jr., Jim Pierson, David Classing, Fred Classing, Steve Classing, Michael Classing, Doug Gambill and Mark Eaches. Rickie Acre
Rickie Ray Acre, 59, of Muskegon, Mich., died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. on Monday in the Gilmer Township Cemetery in Elberta, Mich. There will be a family gathering at the home of Rickie’s sister, Sheila, at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
