Jean McGurk

Jean Adrienne McCown McGurk, 78, passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2014. A native of Ironton, she was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Adrienne T. McCown. She attended the nursing program at Miami University and graduated from nursing school at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. She moved to Spartanburg with her husband William R. McGurk and four children in 1969 and served as a registered nurse in private-duty nursing and in positions at Charles Lea Center, Mary Black Hospital, Converse College and as a third-shift hospice nurse at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where she retired in 1997 after 14 years of service. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader and camp nurse at Camp Mary Elizabeth. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Spartanburg.

Jean is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, and children Jenny Adrienne Fulton, of Edmond, Okla., W. Jeffrey McGurk, of Lyman, S.C., Debra Jean Atkins, of Boiling Springs, S.C. and Lisa Anne Harrison, of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren, Adrienne Johnson, of Edmond, Okla., Stephanie Gilliland, of Medford, Okla., Nick Fulton, of Edmond, Okla., Rachel Parker, of Columbia, S.C., Max McGee and Meredith McGee, both of Lyman, S.C.; great-granddaughter, August Adrienne Johnson, of Edmond; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Joanne McCown and Terry and Eleanor McCown, all of Ironton.

The family will receive friends 1:45-2:45 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Baptist Church Welcome Center, 897 S. Pine St. in Spartanburg. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. in the Morningside Baptist sanctuary by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely, to be followed by a cryptside committal service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg.

Joyce Lambert

Joyce Lambert, 78, of Coal Grove, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at home. She was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Flatwoods, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lambert, and son, Dale Lambert. She is survived by seven sons, David, Kenneth, Samuel, Scott, John and Anthony Lambert, and Terry Skaggs; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and Europe. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville is in charge of arrangements. Daryl Womack

Daryl Womack, 54, of Hartwell, Ga., formerly of Ironton, passed away May 23, 2014. He was born March 2, 1960, the son of the late Ed and Shirley Johnson Womack.

Mr. Womack was a graduate of Ironton High School and West Virginia Tech. He was a former employee for 20 years at a furniture business and a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hartwell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bubba Lawrence Greg Patterson and Dale Robert Womack.

He is survived by two sons, Dustin R. Womack, of Elberton, Ga. and Michael P. Womack, of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Diana Joy, of Ironton and Tammy Hidalgo, of Florida; two brothers, David Womack, of Florida and Doug Womack, of Texas.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday Junior Furnace Cemetery with minister Jimmy Williams officiating. There will be no visitation. Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

James Mills

James Jack Mills, 89, of Huntington, died Monday, June 16, 2014, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.

 

 

Gary Noel

Gary Lee Noel Sr., 56, of Pedro, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Dec. 4, 1957, the son of Jessie Perry Noel of Pedro and the late John Noel. He is also survived by his wife of 36 years, Debra Blagg Noel, whom he married Aug. 27, 1977.

Gary attended Rock Hill High School and was a self-employed roofer. He enjoyed watching his granddaughters play basketball and spending time with all of his grandchildren. He volunteered as a coach and umpire at Rock Hill and District 11. He was of the Bapitst faith.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Noel; and his father-in-law, the Rev. Fred S. Blagg. In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary (Casey) Noel, of Kitts Hill, Craig (Brooke) Noel, of Ironton and Joshua (Mariah) Noel, of Pedro; three brothers, John (Donna) Noel, of Hanging Rock, Larry (Kathy) Noel and Rick (Karla) Noel, all of Kitts Hill;

four grandchildren, Kyleigh Noel, Jaylon Noel, Haven Noel, all of Ironton, and Brayden Noel, of Chesapeake; his mother-in-law, Carol Blagg, of Pedro; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred and Maida Blagg, Roger Blagg, Tim and Glenda Blagg, Larry Blagg, Jeff Blagg, Ronnie and Carrie Blagg, Kenny Blagg, Stephen and Rachel Blagg, Linda and Roger Watson, and Jane and Jeff Phillips, all of Pedro; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Revs. Stephen Blagg and Ronnie Blagg officiating. Betty Koukos

Betty Koukos; 84, of South point, passed away Monday June 16, 2014 at the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley.

She was born Aug. 14, 1929, a daughter of the late Caroline Rowe Stephenson and the late Charles Stephenson. Betty was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Koukos; a daughter, Debbie Koukos; three brothers, James, Carl and Ralph Stephenson; and two sisters, Mary Willis and Ann Freeman.

She is survived by her son, Toney Koukos and his wife Mitzi; a daughter, Billy Jean Piercey; a brother, Billy Ray Stephenson and his wife Ruthie; a sister, Joyce Pickens,; four grandchildren, Courtney Renee Koukos, Tori Shiyanne Koukos, Hunter Koukos and Melissa Downey; her sister-in-law, Claire Stephenson; her special nieces, Carol Jean Freeman and Sharon Bryant; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel with pastor Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery. Friends may share memories and condolences with the family of the Facebook page for the Brown Funereal Chapel.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services at the chapel. Her son and his family have entrusted his mother’s care to the Brown Funeral Chapel of Ironton.
