CHESAPEAKE — Organizers of a proposed community garden at the Chesapeake Community Center are looking for sponsors for the garden beds.

Last week center board member Doug Scott came to the Lawrence County Commission meeting to see if funding were possible for a garden and paving of the track around the center. The garden would be comparable to the one started last summer by Ironton In Bloom. It is geared for those who live in apartments or do not have sufficient yard space for a garden.

Scott also said there are a number of individuals who need wheelchair access to the track and by paving it that could be accomplished. He estimated that cost to be approximately $10,000.

The community garden would be constructed on the west side of the center building and would have a number of raised beds that would also be wheelchair accessible.

The board would like sponsors to come forward to help fund the garden beds rather than charge those participating. Anyone interested in helping, should call the Chesapeake Community Center at 740-867-4532.
