James Fugitt

James Elmer Fugitt Jr., 55 of Kitts Hill, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 2, 1958, the son of Nina Dilley Fugitt, of Kitts Hill, and the late James E. Fugitt Sr.

Mr. Fugitt was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and a former clerk for the Hecla Water Company. He was a member of the Tri-County Choir and a member of Myrtle Ridge Missionary Baptist Church and attended Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Teresa (Meredith) Malone, of Cynthiana, Ky., and Brenda (Paul) Bruce, of Kitts Hill; a niece, Brenda Ann (Bo) Simpson, of Kitts Hill; and two nephews, Paul W. Bruce II, of South Point, and James Bruce, of Kitts Hill.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Tim Burge and pastor Mike Long officiating. Rita Brubaker

Rita Marie Fillgrove Brubaker, 83, of South Point, and most recently Close-To-Home in Ironton, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born April 15, 1931, a daughter to the late Edward and Viola Boreman Fillgrove. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Donald Carl Brubaker, who passed away Dec. 27, 1991.

Mrs. Brubaker was a 1949 graduate of Ironton High School and was a homemaker. She also was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a 56-year member of OES 437 Eastern Star, Amaranth and White Shrine and an active member of the 49ers in Ironton.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Juanita Marie Pitts and Debra Carlene Layne; and son, Donald David Brubaker.

Mrs. Brubaker is survived by two children, John Edward (Vickie) Brubaker, of Lexington, Ky., and Susan Anne (Samuel) Pratt, of Kingsport, Tenn.; a special friend who was like a son to her, Gary Williams; 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with pastor David Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Garden in South Point. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday with Eastern Star service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Rita may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 101 S. Imo Sexton, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Heartland of Riverview in South Point. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.

Paul Everette Stombock, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at home. He is survived by his wife, Betty. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.

Larry G. Rowe, 73, of Huntington, W.Va., died Monday, June 23, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington.
