PROCTORVILLE —When you hear the name ‘Coach Carl York,’ what comes to mind? Hopefully, enough to help me fuel a book I’m writing on the legendary high school coach who was a household name in three states and beyond.

I grew up in Proctorville and graduated from Fairland High School. After graduation, I received a basketball scholarship to Marshall University in 1961. I met coach York when I was in the sixth grade and he was just beginning his career at Fairland.

I was lucky enough to become one of “The Untouchables” and I was present at the gymnasium dedication now known as the Carl York Center, Home of the Fairland Dragons.

Now I am back home seeking stories from anyone that knew Carl York. Maybe a former basketball player or someone that worked with Carl. It can be anyone that has a funny or personal story they would like to share.

Anyone whose anecdote or story ends up in print will be acknowledge in the book.
