ROME TOWNSHIP— If the 4-H motto on the back of the Junior Fair Team Leaders T-shirts is true — “To make the best better” — then some folks walked away with some decadent desserts Monday night at the sweet tooth auction.

Politicians, business owners and all around confection-lovers gathered at the livestock arena to bid for more than 40 desserts made by the team leaders. Bob Sells was the auctioneer.

The teens raised nearly $2,000 for their community service projects and activities.

Rachel Fraley, 4-H educator, said the team leaders — whose numbers rose from last year — range in age from 13-18 and are from all over the county.

The team leaders are a big part of what makes the fair run smoothly each year, Fraley said. The teens announce shows, run the clover bud games, assist judges and help with tag-ins before the fair starts and set up behind the scenes.

“They are everywhere they are needed,” Fraley said. “I can count on them for anything.”
