registration, camp set

The Ironton Youth Football League will conduct registration for grade K-6 from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Ironton Little League concession stand on Saturday.

Flag football will be for grades K-1 although first graders have the option to play tackle football.

Fee is $40 per player or $60 per family.

Youths may also register for a football camp that will be held July 21, 22, 24 and 25.

 

Ironton LL girls all-stars

seeking help for state

The Ironton Little League 9-10-year-old girls’ softball all-star team won its first-ever District 11 championship and will be playing in the state tournament July 11-16 in Ashtabula.

The team’s 13 players and coaches are currently raising funds to pay for travel, meals and accomodations. The non-profit organization would greatly appreciate any donations to help with this event.

Ironton volleyball camp planned for July 28-30

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ girls’ volleyball cmp will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 28-30, at the middle school, 302 Delaware St.

Fee is $25.

Areas of instruction include passing, setting, hitting, serving, teamwork skills, blocking and defense.

 

K of C holds annual golf scramble on Saturday

The Knights of Columbus Watterson Council No. 1405 will hold its annual golf scramble Saturday at Diamond Link Golf Club in Cannonsburg, Ky.

Registration is at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30. Lunch will be served.

Ironton cross country camp set for summer

The Ironton Fighting Tigers will conduct a summer cross country camp from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for nine dates culminating with a Midnight Madness at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.

First day of practice is Friday, Aug. 1.

Camp days are July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29 and 30.

 

Rock Hill youth football plans signups, camp

The Rock Hill youth football league will conduct registrations for youths in grades K-6 from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 12, 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 19, at the elementary school. Fee is $30.

Ther will be a football camp for anyone in grades K-6 from 7-8 p.m. July 28 to Aug. 1. Fee is $5.

Annual Faith and Fitness 5K run set for Saturday

The fourth annual Faith and Fitness 5K run will be at 8 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Ironton.

Fee is $15 before July 1 and $20 after that date. The race will start at the Fitness Center, 400 Vernon St.

 

Volleyball officials’ class scheduled for July 14

Persons wanting to become an Ohio High School Athletic Association volleyball official should attend an instructional class that begins Monday, July 14.

Ironton youth soccer sets registration dates

The Ironton Area Youth Soccer Association will conduct registrations for the fall season at the Ironton City Center, 301 South Third Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, July 12 and 19.

The league is for youths ages 4-to-12 with birthdays between Aug. 1, 2002, to July 31, 2010.

Fee is $20 per youth and $15 for each additional sibling. There will be a $5 late fee after July 19. Everyone is welcomed.

 

Senior softball seeks

Annual Flyer 5K run

scheduled for Aug. 16

The fourth annual Ironton Catholic Schools Flyer 5K run in cooperation with Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and Ironton Urgent Care will be held starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the high school on the corner of Fifth and Quincy streets.

Fee is $15 before Aug. 9 and $20 after that date. Same day registration will be from 7-7:45 a.m. Checks may be made payable to Ironton Catholic Schools (912 S. Sixth St., Ironton, OH 45638).

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers overall and in each of the 15 age groups. There will be no duplications. Tech shirts will be guaranteed to the first 200 runners. There were 283 entries last year.

 

Rio Grande to conduct girls’ softball camps

RIO GRANDE — The University of Rio Grande softball program will conduct a hitting camp on Sunday, July 13, and a pitching/catching camp on Sunday, July 27, at Rio Softball Park on the URG campus.

The camps will run from 1-3 p.m. for players ages 7-13 and from 3-5 p.m. for players ages 14-18 on both dates. Cost is $30.

Rio Grande softball head coach Amber Bowman will direct the camp, while RedStorm players will also be assisting in the instruction.

Bowman was a four-year starter at shortstop for Rio from 2008-11. She then spent two years as a graduate assistant coach for the RedStorm before serving as an assistant coach at the University of Northwestern Ohio in 2014.

Parents and coaches are welcome to attend any of the sessions to observe and ask questions.

Players MUST have a completed medical consent form, which is available from the Rio softball webpage on the school’s athletic website (www.rioredstorm.com), before being allowed to participate. Softballs will be provided, but players should also bring appropriate gear to the tryout.

Lady Herd offering two softball camps

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall softball will be hosting an all-skills camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28-29 for girls entering grades 1-8.

Interested athletes can print off the camp brochure from HerdZone.com and send in the registration form plus a $25 non-refundable deposit to the softball offices at P.O. Box 1360, Huntington, WV, 25715.

Lunch on campus and a one-hour swim (July 28 only) at the Marshall Rec Center are included.

The camp is conducted by Shonda Stanton, the Herd’s all-time winningest softball coach.

The Lady Herd “Fall Instructional Program” that will work on all aspects of pitching and hitting will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, 16,23 and 30 and Oct. 7 and 14.

The 11th annual Bo Reid Memorial Baseball Tournament will be held July 26-27 in Tiffin.

There are 10U and 12U age divisions for the 3-game guarantee round robin format. First eight teams will be accepted.
