Western Regional Jail records show Grooms was charged with domestic assault, burglary, petit larceny and fleeing on foot. Jail records didn’t indicate whether he has an attorney.

Last November, Grooms was arrested on domestic battery and obstruction charges and was suspended from the team indefinitely.

Grooms led Marshall as a freshman in 2012 with 737 rushing yards. He ran for 503 yards during an injury-plagued season in 2013.

Pinkston not cleared to practice

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The Browns say offensive guard Jason Pinkston has not been medically cleared to practice.

The team and Pinkston’s agents released a joint statement Monday saying the four-year veteran has been in communication with the Browns. The team says it will respect Pinkston’s privacy and not provide further details “at this time.”

Pinkston started 16 games as a rookie in 2011. The next year he was sidelined with blood clots in his lungs, threatening his career.

The fifth-round draft pick from Pittsburgh played only three games last season because of an ankle injury.

On Sunday, first-year coach Mike Pettine said there was a “possibility” Pinkston will return to the team. Pinkston said on Twitter he has not considered retiring.

UK two-sport great Jones dead at 88

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Wallace “Wah Wah” Jones, a multi-sport star who helped Kentucky win the first two of its eight national titles and is considered the school’s greatest all-around athlete, has died. He was 88.

Jones, an All-American, was the last surviving member of the Wildcats’ “Fabulous Five” that won the 1948 national championship and went on to claim Olympic gold that year with the U.S. team. He returned with three teammates under Hall of Fame coach Adolph Rupp to repeat as titlists in 1949.

That wasn’t Jones’ only talent.

Jones played football from 1945-48, including three seasons for legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, and earned all-Southeastern Conference honors in 1946 and ‘48. Tall and chiseled, he also played baseball for the Wildcats.

Jones is the only Wildcat to have his jerseys retired in basketball and football.

Dodgers, Cubs make deal for Barney

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired second baseman Darwin Barney in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.

Barney won a Gold Glove in 2012 after tying the major league single-season record with 141 consecutive errorless games. But he was designated for assignment last Tuesday after hitting .230 with 16 RBIs in 72 games this season.

The last-place Cubs sent Barney and cash to NL West-leading Los Angeles for a player to be named. The trade was announced on Monday.

Barney, who turns 29 in November, is a .244 career hitter with 18 homers and 146 RBIs in 542 games.

Lions, Suh won’t talk until after season

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions are postponing contract talks with All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh until after the season.

Suh is entering the final season of his contract, and team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew said before practice Monday that negotiations are being tabled. Lewand and Mayhew both expressed optimism that a deal can eventually be reached.

“He’s told me he wants to be here. I have a good relationship with him,” Mayhew said. “I know I want him to be here. I don’t know what else to tell you.”

Lewand said Detroit’s salary cap situation isn’t the reason for the delay in an agreement.

If the two sides can’t reach a deal after the season, the Lions could still keep Suh by using their franchise tag on him.

Ex-Georgia runner dies in car accident

CORDELE, Ga. (AP) — Former University of Georgia 400-meter standout Torrin Lawrence died Monday morning in a car accident as he made his way home to Jacksonville, Florida. He was 25.

Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock said Lawrence was traveling along Interstate 75 about 1:40 a.m. when a tire blew out. Lawrence got out of the car to make a phone call when a tractor-trailer came over the crest and struck the car, knocking the vehicle into Lawrence.

Hancock said Lawrence was on his way to Jacksonville after training in Athens, where he won an NCAA indoor title for the Bulldogs in 2010. The accident happened about 90 miles from the Georgia-Florida state line.

Lawrence graduated from Georgia with a degree in sociology in May 2013 after a record-setting college career.
