Robert Kerns

Robert Morris Kerns, 67, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Nov. 25, 1946, a son of the late Robert Hayes Kerns Jr. and Maggie Marie Jenkins Kerns.

Mr. Kerns was a graduate of Decatur-Washington High School and Collins Career Center Technical College. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a self employed electrician. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8850 and the NRA. He was also of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Kerns; and a sister, Miriam “Ginger” Kazee.

He is survived by a son, Robert J. (Dawn) Kerns of Boyd County, Ky.; two daughters, Tina M. Kerns (Dave) Barnett of Detroit, Mich., and Angie G. (Lewis) Riser of Oak Hill, W.Va.; a step-son, Travis Elkins of Ironton; a step-daughter, Tara Elkins of Ironton; a sister, Angie Kerns(Terry) Tipton of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Justin Kerns and John Kerns both of Pedro; six grandchildren, Tyler Kerns, Garrett Barnett, Jack Barnett, Jesse Riser, Samuel Riser, and Jarred Riser; and a step-grandson, Alex Johnson of Ironton.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Puckett Cemetery in Pedro with the Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8850. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

 

 

Marcella Sharp

Marcella Sharp, 64, of Waterloo, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 15, 1950, a daughter of the late Samuel Leslie and Lillian Faye Pruitt Cole.

Marcella attended Decatur and Rock Hill Schools. She was a custodian for the Rock Hill School District for over 20 years and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Samantha Warboy; two brothers, Tommy Cole and Donald Cole; and two sisters, Carolyn Kinstler and Shirley Daniels.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Wayne R. Sharp, of Waterloo; a daughter, Tresa Warboy, of Waterloo; son, Wayne E. “Eddie” Sharp (Kera), of Waterloo; son, James Horner (Carolyn), of Kitts Hill; two sisters, Dana Hensley (Walter), of Kitts Hill and Barbara Reaper (Johnny), of Pedro; four grandchildren, Kayla McGhee (Billy Jack), Cierra Warboy, Christopher Warboy Jr. and Andrew Stapleton; and a great-grandchild, Gabrielle McGhee.

Earl McKee

Earl W. McKee, 73 of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at Marion General Hospital. He was born Oct. 2, 1940, in Coal Grove, to the late William Arthur and Betty (Riffe) McKee. On Oct. 26, 2002, he married Sharel J. (Pheasant).

Earl was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Marion, he was formerly employed at Tecumseh Products, M.C.I., Marion County Auxilliary Sheriff and Honda of America for 16 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sharel McKee of Marion; children, Susan (Norman) West, of Sturgis, Mich., Melinda (Jack) Johnson, of Big Island, Angie McKee, of Columbus, Christopher McKee, of Marion and Jason (Tami) Bishop, of Tacoma, Wash.; four grandchildren; four brothers, Francis McKee, of Ironton, Jim Waggoner, of Gastonia, N.C., Ed (Sharon) McKee, of Ironton, and Richard (Sharon) McKee of Ironton; three sisters, Harrett Williamson, of Marion, Darline Rapp, of Ironton, and Ester (Bob) Austin, of Lakeland, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Joann Pheasant, of Marion; three sisters-in- law, Barbara (Dave) Boggs, of Marion, Vickie (Tim) McGowen, of Prospect and Tammy Kelly, of Marion; and a brother-in-law, Steven Pheasant, of Marion.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dwight McKee; and a daughter, Terry Lynn McKee.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Grand Prairie Cemetery with pastor William Snyder officiating. No calling hours will be observed. The Boyd-Born Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home. Carroll Wright

Carroll Joyce Hayes Wright, 78, of Scottown, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. She is survived by her husband, Lee Wright. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by Pastor Mark Roach. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Opal Sexton McDowell, 69, of Ashland, Ky., died on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., is in charge of arrangements, which are pending.

 

 

Donna Brumfield

Donna J. Brumfield, 87, of Ironton, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Arrangements are pending at the Tracy Brammer–Monroe Funeral Home.

 

 

Mabel Cooper

Mabel Ann Cooper, 90, of St. Albans, W.Va., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Teays Valley Center.
